GUT WALDSCHACH

Waldschach Fish Hatchery is situated in the Austrian province of Styria, on the bottom of mountain Demmerkogel and at the door to the wine-growing region of Southern Styria. It is the largest and one of the most innovative fisheries in Austria. The complex consists of 95 lakes with a total size of more than 100 surface hectares and ist set in the deligthful surroundings of a beautiful valley. Our annual production amounts up to 160 tons of fish and about 50 million of stock.
The fishery was set up by Alexander Menzel in 1954 and has been extended over the years. What formerly started as a three-pond fishery has now become a very modern lake management business with its own laboratory, working in close co-operation with the Institute of Ichthyology at the University of Vienna. After a 50 year long history of successful fish production the business is now owned by Menzel´s son Paul Menzel. It was our unbroken enthusiasm and the numerous technical improvements that have made Waldschach Fish Hatchery one of the largest fisheries in Europe
